(Year 3) Day 142 – Nasty Nor’Easter

November 7, 2012 – 10:48 pm 4 Comments

We feel so sorry for the residents here; firstly they’re battered by Sandy and now slammed by the Nor-Easter!  Today it’s been very cold and eventually, at lunch time it started to snow.  It’s now 11pm and it’s still snowing and it’s been settling for a few hours.   Many residents still don’t have power post-Sandy  – they are heading to shopping centres and McD’s to warm up and we’ve heard many people complaining. This will only compound the situation in terms of trying to get power restored.

I think we’re lucky to have found a hotel with power, heating and wifi, even if it is a brothel; one night we were kept awake by next door!!!  Unfortunatley, we don’t have a fridge or a microwave in our room and we’ve really missed being able to make a cup of tea or coffee, or to heat a simple meal of soup or a tin of ravioli.  Getting a bit fed up with cold food and drinks now ……….!!  This morning we’ve walked about a mile to the shopping area in Elizabeth to get a few provisions for today and to get coffee and some lunch whilst we were out.

It was very busy getting out of NYC last night and we’re so pleased we’ve not been in to the City today!  We have a list of things still to see up in the City, but the Nor’Easter weather warning has been around for a few days and therefore we planned to do the 3 days and stay ‘home’ today and not worry about what we’ve missed.  We’ve given NYC a good go and seen plenty and our legs could do with a rest!!   It has been chaos this evening apparently; hardly any trains running because of the snow and also plenty of power outages again, so a good call from us not to venture in ……….   Instead, we’ve spent the afternoon organising ourselves and packing all our belongings – we’re off to the airport tomorrow ………….!!

Hey! So good to hear you are home. I thought you were leaving earlier than you did. I guess I misunderstood. Can’t wait to read all about your trip. I bet everyone home is thrilled you are there! I think of you often. I am back in Arkansas with my friends and family. It feels good to be here. Truman and Nigel were trooper travelers and are doing great. I love you two! Maybe someday we will meet again.
