(Year 3) Day 134 – Pippa for President!

October 30, 2012 – 10:02 pm 2 Comments

Sandy well and truly hit New Jersey and New York; we escaped very well in our hideout in Richmond, Virginia.  We were therefore able to move on today and head on up to Washington; there was plenty of tree debris around, but nothing too dramatic in this area.   We had a near escape on the interstate (motorway) though, when a 4×4 joined from a sliproad and lost control of his car! He slewed across our lane (in front of our truck) and just missed a car in the next lane, where his 4×4 then did a complete 360 degree spin.  So lucky that there was a large gap in the traffic; a few seconds later and there were lots of lorries and cars buzzing around and it could have been extremely nasty.  We’ve seen so many ambulances and power vehicles from other States here to help in the post-Sandy situation, it’s so good to see this camaraderie, just as we witnessed in the days post-Isaac.

In Washington we’ve been able to switch from our huge truck to something smaller – a transit van, although here they’d call it a cargo van.  We’ve had a quick whizz through Washington and taken some ‘photos on the hoof’ of the Pentagon and the Capitol Building.  Of course, Pippa had to get a look in at the White House – Pippa for President!!  We really liked the look of Washington – we saw some attractive architecture and some interesting housing, it was a shame the weather wasn’t very conducive to having a look around.   The weather is still windy, drizzling rain and very, very cold – we are very quickly losing our wonderful tans …………!!!

We are now on our way to Pennsylvania in the hope of seeing some Amish – hopefully they’ve not been blown away in their buggies!!

A few photos from today (most of them from the van!):-
