Day 159 to Day 161 – Turkmenistan Transit

September 6, 2010 – 11:36 pm 4 Comments

Day 159 (Monday 6th September) –  A Yurt for the Night

It took us 1 and a half hours to exit Iran;  waiting, waiting, waiting for someone to put our details into a ledger and to check our passports.  We were then out and in no-man’s land (lots of it), on our way to Turkmenistan.  At Turkmenistan entry there is a ‘sheep dip’ pit but they didn’t want us to go through that (we’d read about this in other people’s blogs!), so it was in to the building with our bikes and trailers to be fairly quickly processed; by the way, we are now +4GMT.   (more…)

Day 155 – Blocked Bog!!

September 2, 2010 – 11:39 pm 2 Comments

Every restaurant in Iran is huge – they always seem to be attached to hotels, and seem to double as venues for weddings or private parties, so it’s been quite strange the two of us sitting in these cavernous rooms eating on our own!   (more…)

Day 154 – Not As Tough As Expected!

September 1, 2010 – 11:35 pm 1 Comment

We were woken at 7am by someone saying “Mister, Mister, wake, wake Mister”, well we have no choice now but to be awake, as you’re making soooo much noise!!!  Normally we’d be up and away, but after yesterday’s exhaustion we wanted as much shut-eye as we could get. (more…)

Day 153 – 120KMS and a Doorway for a Bed

August 31, 2010 – 11:20 pm 6 Comments

Our wonderful host, Saeid, was up at 5am, (the same time as us), to get us a delicious breakfast and to see us safely across Mashhad city on our way.  Saeid lives in the West and we had to head off East and Mashhad is a huge city, we did 30Kms following his car, just to get on the road to Sarakhs!  We said our “Goodbyes” in a layby and know that we’ll always be friends with Saeid and hope to see him in the UK one day so that we can repay his marvellous hospitality. (more…)

It’s been a great opportunity to stay with the girls in their apartment in Mashhad, Ziba speaks English and we were able to exchange lots of views and gain a lot of knowledge about each other’s countries; Ziba is actually from Iraq, as her mother married an Iraqi man.   (more…)
